MY50 XP

Building on CTM’s engineering credentials and cross over from aviation. We set out to answer the 2012 mandate from the ‘new super yacht designers award’ with our young prodigy Matt Wilkinson supported by our team and led by Robin. The brief was to convert an existing 50m frigate hull into an explorer yacht to dream of.

Project Overview

The project was given some structure with tonnage, length, beam and a wish to retain the funnel feature all from the existing frigate. Matt set out the overall exterior style, truly expressing his inner potential as a future superyacht design practitioner.

Design

With a contemporary palette of materials including, for the interior, high gloss finishes, specialist metal textures on large wall bulkheads blended with sweeping modern shapes for classic teak wood finishes the overall effect blends a truly inspiring interior space to spend time in. The hull whilst formed in size and basic navel architecture still allowed some unique opportunities culminating with a unique transom and fore deck for a number of off shore ‘toys’ to truly entertain and explore a wide variation of coast line.

Outcome

Recognition as runner-up at ‘new super yacht designers award’.
